What’s been happening:

My passion is teaching that employs active learning (i.e. service-learning including three years as the Director of the Shippensburg University Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program) and holistic approaches to learning. My recent research and academic publications include a book, Accounting in Action: Learning in the Field (Hocking, D. E.) published in June 2009 in Germany by VDM Verlag Dr. Muller AG & Co. KG. In addition I have two recent refereed academic journal publications: An Answer to the AICPA Core Competencies Challenge in the Journal of Instructional Pedagogies, Volume 2 (Hocking, D. E. & Hocking, R. T. in press, 2009) and Toward a Model for the Use of Spirituality in Teaching Accounting in the Journal of Academic and Business Ethics Volume 1 (Hocking, D. E., Myers, M. D., & Cairns, S., January 2009). My most recent conference presentation and proceeding is Accounting in Action: Learning in the field, presented at the Academy of Business Disciplines, Ft. Myers, Florida in November 2008. I have received the following teaching awards: 2007 Ronald J. Points Teaching Award for outstanding teaching in accounting, Beta Gamma Sigma and John L. Grove College of Business; and 2007, 2005, & 2003 Alpha Kappa Psi Accounting Professor of the Year.
